March Is Women's History Month

We’ve Come a long way, Ladies

Let’s celebrate

I never knew how strong my mother was until I realized what a beautiful life she had put together for my sister and me under not the easiest of circumstances at times. She had seen war as a child, went from no significant job into a marriage leading to divorce 23 years later to becoming a successful personal banker at Germany’s largest bank. All while being the most loving and supportive mother anyone can imagine. Sadly, she left us way too soon but we will never forget her and the love and generosity she gave to everyone coming in contact with her. This month, I want to celebrate her and her accomplishments. Kindness is often confused with weakness, but my mother was the perfect example that a woman can be kind, feminine, and strong at the same time. Rest in Power, mom. Happy Women’s History Month in Heaven.

Which woman in your life are you celebrating this month?

As we are celebrating Women’s History Month this March, think about the strong women in your life and honor them by giving them a shout-out. It could be a relative, a friend, a mentor, a colleague, or someone you are admiring for her inspirational life and accomplishments. A role model for girls and women.

Send her a card, a letter, a text or give her a call to let her know that you are celebrating and honoring her this month.

An additional way to honor Women’s History Month is by donating to a female-centered charity. The following are several charities geared toward women that were recommended by City Beauty.

Select your favorite one from this list or one you may already have chosen on your own, and support them in recognition of Women’s History Month.

National Women's History Alliance
“Recognizing the achievements of women in all facets of life – science, community, government, literature, art, sports, medicine – has a huge impact on the development of self-respect and new opportunities for girls and young women.”
— NWHA

This non-profit is dedicated to preserving women's history and telling the stories of positive female role models from all backgrounds.

Global Fund for Women
In 1987, the founders of Global Fund for Women came together with one unified belief: women’s human rights are essential to social, economic, and political change around the world — for the benefit of us all. This non-profit provides funding for women's rights initiatives including economic justice, freedom from violence, and sexual health & rights.

Dress For Success
Before the pandemic, women made up more than half of the U.S. workforce. But over the past year, nearly 3 million women have lost their jobs. Mothers have been furloughed or laid off, while others have had to leave frontline jobs to care for their young children.

Dress For Success aims to help women gain economic independence by providing a support network, professional attire, and developmental initiatives like leadership programs to teach women how to succeed in an industry.

I’ll leave you with this quote by the legendary Marilyn Monroe:

“Women who seek to be equal with men lack ambition.”

Happy Women’s History Month 2021.
