-Loved-

A Short film

Written and Directed by D.J. Higgins

Contrary to this review’s headline, this film is not a romantic love story but a powerful thriller showing the unleashing of an emotionally spent person’s mind.

Written and expertly directed by D.J.Higgins known for the drug addiction thriller “Smack”, “Armed & Dangerous”, and other award-winning short films, this is a story of what can happen when a person spins out of control. D.J. Higgins’ script delivers great dialogue and the appropriate pace for this type of genre, and is then artfully brought to life by the lead actor, assuring that the right amount of suspense is maintained until the end.

The story plot follows Harold, convincingly and with great acting skill played by Joseph Sernio, who finds his wife, played by Debby Gerber, in bed with another man (Will Raver). What follows next is a melt-down of epic proportions.

The 2022 produced film received 17 awards and 12 nominations so far including Best Actor for Joseph Sernio, Best Director for D.J. Higgins as well as Best Thriller, Best Film of the Month, and Best Cinematography for Troy Ruff.

In addition to his acting role, Joseph Sernio is also credited as producer with his production company Holly Lake Films, executive producer, production designer and set decorator.

Additional producing credits include Peter Dobson, Kevin Interdonato, Brian Mount, Julie Robinson, and Troy Ruff.

With a running time of barely 15 minutes, typical for a short film, the story has to unfold pretty fast leaving the audience wanting to learn more about Harold, his wife and their relationship and life before the inciting event. Since short films are often used as proof of concept, the idea of a full length feature film of Loved in the future could not be too far from reality which would allow for some twists and turns to reveal more about the characters and the choices they made in the film.

We are giving this powerful indie spirit thriller with a Hollywood feel a 5-Star Rating.

The film is currently in the festival circuit.
